Special Instructions to skippers are issued whenever necessary during the season, with details of changes to the normal operating procedures, usually caused by environmental changes. They can only be issued by a member of the WAEL Board, usually the Boat Operations Manager.
A copy of all Special Instructions currently in force is held inside the front of the log book on each boat. Skippers are required to sign each Special Instruction sheet (once) before operating the boat.
For your convenience, these instructions are listed in reverse order (latest first). Scroll down if necessary to see all Special Instructions for this year.
On leaving Drungewick Lock, please close the top gates and raise the lower gate paddle to ensure good closure of the top gates.
There is some leakage through the bottom gates and this will reduce the water loss from the Baldwins Knob pound.
Rosie Sugar, Boat Operations Manager – 17th April 2011
To seal the gates and paddles - after the last trip of the day returning down through Loxwood Lock, please add a minimum of 2 buckets of sawdust in front of the top gates, across the whole width of the gates (Devils Hole pound side).
Sawdust available beside the hedge.
