Special Instructions

Special Instructions to skippers are issued whenever necessary during the season, with details of changes to the normal operating procedures, usually caused by environmental changes. They can only be issued by a member of the WAEL Board, usually the Boat Operations Manager.

A copy of all Special Instructions currently in force is held inside the front of the log book on each boat. Skippers are required to sign each Special Instruction sheet (once) before operating the boat.

For your convenience, these instructions are listed in reverse order (latest first). Scroll down if necessary to see all Special Instructions for this year.

No 2: Navigation closed beyond Drungewick slipway

The planks have been put in at the plant crossing at Drungewick – therefore no boat trips will go further than this point. Some private charters and the Enthusiast’s trip will have to be shortened.

The shortened Enthusiasts trip will cost £10/£5 for adult/child.

Rosie Sugar, Boat Operations Manager – 6 August 2010

No 1: Avoid partially sunken work boat in Drungewick winding hole

Extreme care required when approaching Drungewick winding hole – the work boat Wasp has sunk and is partially submerged in the middle of the winding hole by the slipway.

To wind the boat it will be necessary to point the boat into the bank beside the short slipway and reverse back into the channel in the direction of the aqueduct.
