Special Instructions

Special Instructions to skippers are issued whenever necessary during the season, with details of changes to the normal operating procedures, usually caused by environmental changes. They can only be issued by a member of the WAEL Board, usually the Boat Operations Manager.

A copy of all Special Instructions currently in force is held inside the front of the log book on each boat. Skippers are required to sign each Special Instruction sheet (once) before operating the boat.

For your convenience, these instructions are listed in reverse order (latest first). Scroll down if necessary to see all Special Instructions for this year.

No 1: Unlock all the paddles before working a lock

Before working the boat through the lock, make sure combination locks are removed from all the paddle mechanisms. This will enable quick access to any of the paddles, in case of an emergency.
